Sophie Brain - Performer FF#29
The wonderful Sophie Brain will be one of our two guest performers for this weekends Fèmmme Fraîche socially distanced event. We’ve been trying to lock in Sophie for a date for a long time, but she’s a busy bee, so we’re mega chuffed to finally have her come and perform. We had a quick catch-up with Sophie to get a little post-lockdown gossip, have a read below.
INTERVIEW WITH SOPHIE BRAIN
Hi Sophie, so we're SUPER excited to have you at this Saturdays party, but for those who don't know you, how would you describe yourself as a performer or your performance style?
Wild, camp, fun and free!
And what training did you do to become a dancer / performer?
I trained for 3 years at a theatre school and since graduating from there I feel as though I’m always learning, whether it be in dance class or being inspired by the people around me
You mix up your dancing and shows with a little bit of Drag, so what led you lean towards drag performance?
Since letting myself explore my own identity, I found the freedom to express that through my work. I’m drawn to it as just one of many mediums to channel this exploration - it feels like something which is ever evolving for me.
What advice would you give to other wmxn looking to break into Drag?
Do it however feels right for you. We’re so often fed the narrative that only people with certain bodies are going to ‘succeed’ in this art form. But essentially it’s the perfect playground to explore yourself – and there’s no wrong way to do that!
Love that!! So let's talk the dreaded C-word, how have you been coping or keeping yourself occupied during lockdown?
Cooking has really kept me occupied and away from my phone screen! And my cat Ralph has been the ultimate companion tbh!
RALPH is the cutest <3 (you can see Sophie and Ralph on our Pussy Power IG post HERE) So what's the one thing you're most looking forward to returning post-lockdown?
CLUBS! Sweaty dance floors, loud music, dancing with strangers. I’m desperately craving those non-verbal connections with people!
DITTO!! OK and is there anything you're dreading?
Oooh I’m not sure if I’m really dreading anything?! I’d just love to make sure I keep some of this gorgeous balance I’ve found... down time in between the times of chaos and madness
100%, so last but not least what can we expect from you on Sat?
I don’t want to give too much away but @juni_da_moment has been working hard on a fabulous new look which I can’t wait to twirl up and down Dalston Super Corridor in!
ooooh we love Juiper's handywork, So we're fully booked for Saturdays show, but do you have anymore gigs coming up people might be able to see you?
Yes, I’ll also be performing at @clubtantrum and with @razecollective next month, and then with @sue_veneers_club in the coming months! in!
AMAZING!! and don't forget to follow Sophie on her socials listed below!
